Asian underground is a loose label for British South Asian musicians who set dance music beside Indian and Pakistani traditions. The name stuck with the 1997 compilation Anokha: Soundz of the Asian Underground, made by Talvin Singh and Sweety Kapoor. Anokha was also a Monday club night at the Blue Note in Hoxton, run by Kapoor, Singh and Sam Zaman of State of Bengal. Singh won the 1999 Mercury Prize for OK.
