Electronica is a broad grouping of electronic styles made more for home listening than strict dancing, and the term spread in early 1990s Britain through the experimental techno label New Electronica. The North American music industry took it up as an umbrella label in 1997, with Astralwerks, Moonshine, Sims and City of Angels marketing the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Fluke and the Crystal Method. In the UK it leans toward non-dance listening music that overlaps IDM, while American usage also takes in danceable grooves.
