EMERGED 1985 · WHAT IT GREW OUT OF ITALO DISCO, HI-NRG · 5 TRACKS TO START WITH, 2 SOURCES

Eurobeat means two things: a polished British pop sound of the mid-1980s, and a faster Italian-made dance style sold mainly in Japan. Japanese labels such as Alfa began working with Italian producers in the mid-1980s, and the Super Eurobeat compilation series, started in 1990, moved to Avex and still runs. Dave Rodgers (born Giancarlo Pasquini) wrote and produced much of it, and the anime Initial D used his songs for its racing scenes. The music is fast and synth-led, with melancholy melodies under deliberately cheesy lyrics.
