AMAPIANO
Amapiano is a South African house-derived style that mixes kwaito, deep house, gqom, jazz, soul and lounge, marked by piano melodies and log drum basslines.[1] It emerged in the mid-2010s in the townships of Gauteng, with its exact birthplace disputed between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and its name comes from the Zulu word for pianos.[1] Kabza De Small, MDU and Kelvin Momo are key names, Beatport added dedicated charts in 2022, and Tyla's 2023 song Water reached the US Billboard Hot 100.[1]
