EMERGED 2009 · WHAT IT GREW OUT OF SYNTH-POP, DREAM POP, LO-FI, PSYCHEDELIA, SHOEGAZE · 5 TRACKS TO START WITH, 6 SOURCES

Hazy, home-recorded synth pop that looks back to late-1970s and early-1980s pop, centred on Brooklyn and the US east and south coasts. The name came from the blog Hipster Runoff in July 2009, the year of the so-called Summer of Chillwave. Washed Out, Neon Indian and Toro y Moi are the best-known acts, with Panda Bear's 2007 Person Pitch cited as a precursor.
