What iscrank wave?
On the post-punk line between neue deutsche todeskunst and dance-punk. Grew out of indie rock (alternative rock line), krautrock (progressive rock line) and jazz fusion (jazz line).

CRANK WAVE
Mark Beaumont coined the name in NME in September 2019 for sharp British and Irish guitar bands with a ranting, half-spoken singer, naming Fontaines D.C., Squid, Idles and Do Nothing.[1] It draws on post-punk, noise rock, no wave and krautrock, and Wikipedia counts Dublin's Gilla Band, from 2015, as its first group.[2] Many of the bands passed through Dan Carey's Speedy Wunderground label and the Windmill in Brixton.[2]
