FOOTWORK
Footwork is Chicago dance music built for battling dancers, at around 160 bpm with chopped vocal samples, clattering toms, triplets and staccato snares.[1] It grew out of ghetto house and juke, and RP Boo's "Baby Come On" (1997) is widely treated as the founding record.[1][2] Tracks were made to provoke dance battles, with sudden bass drops to throw off opponents.[1] Planet Mu's Bangs & Works compilation (2010) and DJ Rashad's Double Cup (Hyperdub, 2013) carried it abroad.[1]
