Leftfield is a loose tag from British music writing for electronic and dance records that sit outside the mainstream, drawing on house, techno, ambient, dub and breakbeat, rather than a scene with its own sound. It shares its name with the London duo Leftfield, formed in 1989, but the term coined for their mix of house, dub and reggae was progressive house.
