MAKINA
Makina is fast, bouncing Spanish hard dance led by hard trance synths.[1] It came from the Valencian scene and took its name in 1990s Catalonia, where clubs such as Psicodromo, Pont Aeri and Xque? raised the tempo and swapped the Q of maquina for a K.[2][3] Spanish Wikipedia dates its first phase to 1995 to 1998, with a commercial peak from 1999 to 2001.[3] It also became the youth sound of north-east England, called new monkey after a Sunderland club closed by police in 2006, with MCs rapping over the tracks.[1]
