NOISE
Luigi Russolo's 1913 manifesto The Art of Noises called for noise-sounds and led to his intonarumori noise machines.[1][2] Pierre Schaeffer premiered musique concrete in Paris on 5 October 1948, and Cage and Group Ongaku linked noise to Fluxus in 1960.[1][3] Throbbing Gristle began performing in 1976 and ran Industrial Records, whose slogan named industrial music.[4] Merzbow started in 1979, and Whitehouse formed in 1980 and later named power electronics.[5][6][4] Vomir's harsh noise wall dates from about 2005.[7] Jogja Noise Bombing, Indonesian street noise from about 2009, was covered by Mixmag Asia in 2024.[8]
