JAPANOISE
Noise from the Japanese underground, dated by Wikipedia to the late 1970s and strongest in the late 1980s and 1990s.[1] Group Ongaku's tape pieces of 1960 came first, and Merzbow took Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music as a starting point.[1] Hijokaidan formed in Kyoto in 1979, Merzbow began that year, and Boredoms, C.C.C.C. and Incapacitants are among the better known acts.[1][2][3]
