post-disco
NOW
EMERGED 1979 · WHAT IT GREW OUT OF DISCO, FUNK, DUB · 5 TRACKS TO START WITH, 2 SOURCES
Post-disco is the dance music made after the 1979 backlash against disco, when drum machines, synths and sequencers replaced string and horn arrangements. It leans on funk basslines, dub-style remixes and soulful female vocals, and was sold mostly as 12-inch singles. D Train's "You're the One For Me" (1981), broken by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage and reworked by Francois Kevorkian, is called a post-disco anthem and a proto-house record.
