soulful house
On the house line between piano house and speed house. Grew out of soul, gospel and funk.
SOULFUL HOUSE
Soulful house is a warm, vocal-led branch of house, usually 120 to 125 BPM, with intimate vocals, piano or Rhodes chords and warm basslines over crisp drums.[1] It grew out of the Chicago scene in the late 1980s, where producers blended early house with soul, disco and gospel.[1] Frankie Knuckles, Larry Heard, Kerri Chandler, Masters at Work and Black Coffee are named as key figures, with Defected Records as a label.[1]
