US GARAGE
US garage, or garage house, is the New York and New Jersey strand of house, with more gospel-style piano riffs and female vocals and a soulful, R&B-leaning feel compared with Chicago house.[1] It developed in the early to mid 1980s around Paradise Garage in New York, where DJ Larry Levan was a major figure, and Club Zanzibar in Newark.[1] Visual's 1983 single "The Music Got Me" on Prelude was especially influential, and the term is kept apart from the later UK garage and speed garage.[1]
