EMERGED 1988 · WHAT IT GREW OUT OF DETROIT TECHNO, CHICAGO HOUSE, ELECTRO, DUB · 5 TRACKS TO START WITH, 2 SOURCES
Bleep techno is techno from Yorkshire built on small synth bleeps over heavy sub-bass taken from dub and reggae sound systems. It sold from 1989 to 1991, and Sheffield's Warp was its best-known label. Unique 3's 'The Theme' (1988) is often called the first record, and Forgemasters' 'Track With No Name' was Warp's first single in 1989. Resident Advisor called it a 'distinctly British mutation of techno'.
