BIG BEAT
Big beat pairs heavy, distorted breakbeats and TB-303 acid lines with samples from 1960s and 70s funk, soul and rock, usually at 100 to 140 BPM.[2] Iain Williams of Big Bang used the term in 1989, but the sound developed in early-1990s London alongside rave and British hip hop.[2] Skint, Heavenly and Junior Boy's Own were home labels, and Damian Harris's Big Beat Boutique ran in Brighton from 1995 to 2001.[2] The Chemical Brothers, the Prodigy and Fatboy Slim carried it to a mass audience by the late 1990s.[2]
