ELECTRONIC ART MUSIC
Composers in Paris, Cologne and New York built pieces from the late 1940s out of tape recordings and electronically generated tones.[1] The Paris group under Schaeffer worked from recorded sound, while the WDR studio in Cologne used only sine waves, and the two methods joined in Stockhausen's Gesang der Jünglinge (1955-56).[1] The Columbia-Princeton centre in New York worked on tape, electronic and computer music, and later composers added synthesizers and splicing, speed changes and loops.[1]
