SOUND ART

Sound art uses sound as its main material and is usually shown in galleries, museums and site-specific installations rather than in concert halls.[1] Precursors include Luigi Russolo's Intonarumori (1913); the phrase appeared on the cover of Something Else Press's 1974 yearbook, and MoMA mounted an exhibition titled Sound Art in 1979, curated by Barbara London.[1] Works use loops, sensors, multichannel speakers or physical sculpture, as in Janet Cardiff's Forty Part Motet (2001), shown at ARoS in Aarhus.[1]
