GLITCH
Glitch builds music from the sounds of malfunctioning recording equipment and digital electronics, treating errors as material.[1] It took shape as a distinct movement in 1990s Germany and Japan, around Achim Szepanski's Mille Plateaux label and Ryoji Ikeda.[1] Early records used damaged CDs, and later work moved to software that simulates the faults, with clicks and scratches often standing in for percussion.[1] Oval's 94 Diskont (1995) is treated as a key reference record for the mid-1990s style.[1]
