HAPPY HARDCORE
Happy hardcore kept rave's pianos, bright vocals and fast breakbeats when the UK scene split in 1992 and 1993, while its darker side became jungle.[1][2] Slipmatt's SMD records set the formula, DJ Dougal's set at Dreamscape on New Year's Eve 1993 fixed what it meant, and DJ Vibes says the name arrived in early 1994, at about 160 BPM.[2] Force & Styles took it into the UK pop charts later in the decade, and in 1995 Technohead's I Wanna Be a Hippy carried it to number one in the Netherlands.[1][3]
