HI-NRG
Hi-NRG took its template from Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" (1977): a four-on-the-floor kick with an offbeat hi-hat.[1] The name came from Summer's own "high energy" description, and the music grew in the American gay club scene.[1] Patrick Cowley's "Menergy" and "Megatron Man" became club anthems in 1981, and by the mid-1980s Stock Aitken Waterman had given it a commercial UK sound.[1] Tempos sit around 120 to 140 bpm over octave basslines.[1][2]
