What istechstep?
On the drum and bass line between jump-up and drumfunk. Grew out of techno.
EMERGED 1995
TECHSTEP
Techstep stripped drum and bass down to hard, mechanical beats and distorted Reese basslines, with a science-fiction mood.[1][2] It started in the second half of 1995 with DJ Trace's remix of MK-Ultra's Mutant Jazz and centred on Ed Rush, Trace and Nico of No U-Turn.[1] Ed Rush's Skylab (Metalheadz, 1996) and Killamanjaro (Prototype, 1997) and Jonny L's Piper (1997) were among its anthems.[1]
