DUNGEON SYNTH
Mortiis, the project of former Emperor bassist Håvard Ellefsen, made instrumental music on synthesizers alone in the early 1990s and called it dark dungeon music.[1][2] Burzum, Varg Vikernes's black metal project, put its own keyboard piece at the end of the 1994 album Hvis lyset tar oss.[3] Both came out of the early Norwegian black metal scene, and Mortiis says the first records went straight to tape, with no MIDI or sequencers.[1][4]
