On the ambient line between illbient and dungeon synth. Grew out of new age (easy listening line), chillout (downtempo line), dub (downtempo line), acid house (house line) and electro. Change here for techno.

AMBIENT TECHNO
Ambient techno took shape between the late 1980s and early 1990s in the UK and US, drawing on techno, ambient house, dub and new age.[1] Dated landmarks include Biosphere's Microgravity (1991), Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (1992) and Warp's Artificial Intelligence compilation (1992).[1] Manuel Göttsching's 1984 hour-long E2-E4 is cited as an influence.[1][2]
