GOA TRANCE
Goa trance took shape in the early 1990s out of the party scene in Goa, India, running roughly 130 to 150 BPM with drone-like basslines and a thick kick.[1] Producers favoured squelchy filtered synth lines and film-sample vocals about psychedelia and spirituality.[1] Paul Oakenfold took it to a wider audience in 1994 with his BBC Essential Mix, known as the Goa Mix.[1] The Psytrance Guide lists Oriental, Indian-sounding melodies as typical and calls it the ancestor of psytrance.[2]
