What the Genre!? vs Chosic genre finder: the song's genre or the artist's

Chosic answers "what genre is this?" with the genres Spotify gives the artist. What the Genre!? answers it for the track itself.

You type a song or an artist, and Chosic shows the genres and tags Spotify lists for them, with figures such as popularity, energy and danceability for a song.[1]

Spotify keeps genres on artists, not on songs, so every song by one artist shows the same genres.[2] Since March 2025 developers have reported Spotify returning fewer genres, or none, for many artists.[3]

An artist who made a house record and an ambient record gets the same answer for both.

An artist with no Spotify genres gets no answer.

You cannot disagree. The genre comes from Spotify's data, not from the people listening.

Each track has its own subgenre: Kill Bill by SZA and the rest of the album can differ.

Listeners vote on it, no account needed, with a one-line reason if they want.
